3,000 BC Domus De Janas, Tomb Carved In Stone

The tomb is hidden amonst bushes of mrtleberries and mastic. It features a corridor, a pavilion, a small quadrangular antechamber and a rectangular main room, where doorways open onto two small cells used to accommodate the dead. The pillars to the ceiling (cerefully carved double-sloped wooden roof), imitates the huts of the times. The jambs end with two slat bases, not frequent in funerary architecture of the time.

One wall is decorated with a symbolic door, carved above which are three bull-shaped protomes, god of fertility. Astoningshly, the decorations in relief are still highlighted by red paint. On the floor is a basin - a hearth or container for votive offerings.

Around the rocky outcrop, various cups and pots have been found. This is an absolute masterpiece of archaeology in Sardinia.
